Food waste-fighting fruit and veg delivery company Oddbox has just launched its first cooking pastes, made with tomatoes at risk of going to waste.

There are two pastes to try – Balti and Thai Red Curry – and both are available at Ocado exclusively from 11th September. Deepak Ravindran, Oddbox co-founder, says:

“We’re always looking for new ways to help our growers with crops that are at risk of going to waste. In this case, they had more tomatoes than we could fit into our boxes, so we had to think of a new way to put them to good use.

“Our delicious new cooking pastes contain rescued fresh tomatoes, and over 13 different vegetables and spices. They also don’t need to be cooked, meaning you can use them for sauces, dressings and dips – an easy, squeezy way to fight food waste.”

A spokesperson for Ocado said:

“It’s great to see sustainable brands tackling food waste in new and creative ways. We’re really excited to be the exclusive partner for Oddbox’s cooking pastes and can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Mission, continued

Since 2016 Oddbox has rescued over 49,000 tonnes of fruit and veg at risk of going to waste, working with over 110 growers across the UK and further afield.

The new cooking pastes are a natural extension of that mission, allowing anyone and everyone to join the fight against food waste from their kitchen.

The pastes are made with rescued tomatoes from the UK, rejected by supermarkets and retailers for being “too small”, “too odd” and “not the right colour”. There’s no knowing where they might have ended up without Oddbox – and even if they would have been eaten at all.

All-natural and packed full of goodness

Along with rescued UK tomatoes, Oddbox cooking pastes contain over 13 vegetables and spices.

Unlike in many other pastes, the tomatoes and onions are fresh rather than frozen, giving a richer, fuller flavour. And they contain absolutely no artificial ingredients or flavours.

Deliciously odd dinners, incoming

From curries to traybakes, dips to dressings. Oddbox cooking pastes don’t need to be cooked, so they can be stirred straight into sauces or drizzled over roasted veg for a quick and healthy meal.

Each pack has a simple, three-step recipe on the back. But, in line with Oddbox’s creative cooking philosophy, they’re flexible enough to work with whatever vegetables are already in the fridge. This will help customers reduce the amount they spend, as well as preventing food waste at home.

Want to give them a squeeze?

Oddbox Balti and Thai Red Curry Cooking Pastes are available exclusively from Ocado from 30/10/24. For the first four weeks they’ll be £2.39 – a 20% discount.
