As Dry January approaches, Sea Change spotlights alcohol-free trends to dominate 2025 and beyond. With 2.6 million fewer UK adults drinking alcohol weekly in 2024 compared to 2021 and 17% year-on-year growth, zero-alcohol sparkling wine is now one of the fastest-growing categories in the UK wine market.

2025 Alcohol-Free Trends and Sea Change’s Perspective:
  • Zebra Striping

    • Nearly a quarter of adults in Britain now alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks during social occasions, a practice dubbed ‘zebra striping’ Already a viral trend, its popularity is expected to grow, especially among Gen Z—known as the ‘Sober Curious Generation’.

    • Sea Change POV: Since launching in 2021, online sales of Sea Change Alcohol-Free Sparkling have grown by 203%. In the most recent year alone (1 Nov 2023 - 31 Oct 2024), sales increased by 9%, making it one of Sea Change’s top five products.

  • Sipping Sustainably

    • With 86% of consumers valuing authenticity (Gitnux) and 70% rejecting greenwashing (Duncan & Toplis), sustainability and conscious consumerism are defining themes for 2025.

    • Sea Change POV: Sea Change leads with eco-conscious, plastic-free packaging, lighter-weight glass bottles, natural cork closures, and labels made from sustainable forests with grape-waste components.

  • Quality 0%

    • Alcohol-free wines are poised for growth, driven by improvements in quality that address the taste challenges holding back the category in the past.

    • Sea Change POV: Sea Change Alcohol-Free Sparkling stands out with an innovative process that keeps grapes at 4°C to prevent fermentation, ensuring a crisp, balanced flavour without artificial additives. Unlike some alcohol-free products, it is 0.0% ABV, suitable for those avoiding alcohol for medical or cultural reasons.
