Exciting new topping meets growing demand for bold, heat-driven flavours

A PIONEERING Scottish food ingredients manufacturer has tapped into the UK's growing appetite for spicy flavours with the launch of its new 'sau-ci o.t.t® Spicy Jalapeño' savoury topping.

Responding to the burgeoning demand for innovative, heat-inspired flavours, Macphie’s ' sau-ci o.t.t®' combines sweet and tangy notes with jalapeños and carefully selected spices, delivering a flavour experience inspired by the rising popularity of more spiced cuisine.

James Parker, Macphie's Head Chef says: "Consumers are increasingly adventurous with their food choices. They’re influenced heavily by globalisation, travel experiences and TikTok food trends.

“As a result, we’re seeing a big increase in a demand for stronger standout flavours like these, and we’re happy to meet that call for a spicier addition that aligns perfectly with current tastes."

Mintel recently reported that "53% of consumers are willing to pay more for products with new and innovative flavours," while Waitrose has seen the hot sauce category surge by an impressive 55%.

'sau-ci o.t.t®' also arrives amidst a significant rise in 'swicy' (sweet and spicy) flavours such as hot honey, popularised in recent years as consumers experiment more boldly at home, particularly since lockdown.

Parker added: "Lockdown marked a real turning point, with many turning to their kitchens for entertainment and culinary exploration. This shift has persisted, with spicy sauces becoming a staple to add excitement to everyday meals. We’re pleased to meet this demand head-on."

Ideal for enhancing a range of dishes including burgers, tacos, nachos, wraps, pizzas, and chicken wings, ' sau-ci o.t.t®' is also perfect as a dipping sauce or an accompaniment to cheeseboards.

In a further mark of quality, the product has also received endorsement from The Craft Guild of Chefs, one of the UK’s leading professional chef associations, recognising its bold flavour profile and versatility across a wide range of dishes.

The product is available in convenient 470g squeezy bottles (in pack sizes of six) and boasts a shelf life of nine months from manufacture.

Founded in 1928, Macphie employs over 250 people across its three UK sites and has grown from its roots as a bakery ingredients distributor into a trusted supplier to major international food brands and the wholesale sector.

The ten-year B Corp accredited company focuses on delivering premium ready-to-use sauces, inclusions and bakery products to its restaurant, bakery, retail and food-to-go customers.
