The Double Gold medal awarded to Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Vradiano Cask Finish that scored 98 points is an incredible achievement for a young whisky. Out of thousands of entries over the course of the year, only a small percentage are awarded Double Gold medals.

Carpathian Single Malt Whisky, the first Romanian single malt whisky in the Carpathian Mountains region, produced by the Alexandrion Group at the Alexandrion Saber Distilleries 1789 located in Bucov (Romania) collected more accolades and awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) 2024.

Allan Anderson, Master Distiller Carpathian Single Malt & Whisky Director Alexandrion Group, said: Double Gold medal winners are selected by the most trusted blind judging panels in the world. Scoring 98 points in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is an incredible achievement for a whisky as young as Carpathian Single Malt Whisky. This Double Gold Medal reconfirms the exceptional quality and unique tasting notes of Vradiano, which was also recently awarded Country & Category 'winner' at the World Whiskies Awards 2024”.
Additionally, Carpathian Peated Cask Strength and Fetească Neagră expressions were awarded Silver Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. “I’m very proud of all our results. Carpathian Single Malt Whisky has proven once again that it is a remarkable whisky, that both experts and consumers appreciate. I’m looking forward to the next competitions” added Allan Anderson.

About Carpathian Single Malt Whisky

Carpathian Single Malt is the first Romanian Single Malt Whisky produced in the region of the Carpathian Mountains by the Alexandrion Group.

The Master Distiller of the Carpathian Single Malt is Allan Anderson, with both Scottish and Irish heritage, Allan has over 30 years of experience in producing both Scotch whisky (Loch Lomond, Whyte & Mackay, Aberargie) and Irish whiskey (The Great Northern Distillery). He also designed the Slane Castle Ireland distillery and now is the only person to have created Single Malt Whisky in Scotland, Ireland and Romania.

Carpathian Single Malt Whisky is made using 100% malted barley produced in Romania. This single malt is distilled, matured and bottled at the Alexandrion Saber 1789 Distilleries, located in Bucov, Prahova County (Romania), near the Carpathian Mountains. The first ever Romanian single malt whisky is made with pure Sub-Carpathian water, renowned for its quality, is natural in colour with nothing added or removed, non-chill filtered to retain all the natural colour and flavour. Carpathian Single Malt Whisky is bottled at 46% alcohol, however, there are some small batches bottled at 40% chill filtered, as well as limited releases of cask strength expressions. The temperate climate specific to Romania, which is warmer than the Scotland climate (+5⁰C on average) might explain the unique milder character of this superb single malt. The first Romanian Single Malt aims to connect different cultures from around the world, delivering one the largest ranges of cask finishes.

The Alexandrion Group therefore becomes one of the few companies in the world to use casks from their own wine production facilities, DAR1892, to finish or fully mature Carpathian Single Malt Whisky. The Romanian collection including expressions from indigenous varieties like Feteascǎ Neagrǎ, is a world premiere in terms of single malt production.

Carpathian Single Malt Whisky has an extensive range of expressions divided by country collections, according to the origin of the casks, in collaboration with some of the largest and best-known wineries from around the world. Additional to the Romanian collection, the range also includes cask finishes of wine and spirits under the Spanish and Portuguese Collection, Spirit Collection (Cognac, Rhum), French Collection, Greek and Cypriot Collection, Italian Collection, as well as the Peated Collection.
