Generous Z Tops the Dinner Table as Young People Hailed ‘Best Party Guests’

It’s an unspoken rule that bringing a gift to a dinner party is a thoughtful gesture that shows appreciation for the host’s hospitality.

It’s an unspoken rule that bringing a gift to a dinner party is a thoughtful gesture that shows appreciation for the host’s hospitality.

New research from alcohol-free wine specialists, Eisberg, has revealed that Gen Z are setting the gold standard in dinner party etiquette, leading the way in modern dining culture.

The generation is least likely to arrive empty handed with just 8% opting to not bring a gift to a dinner party compared to 17% of Baby Boomers and 15% of Gen X, the study showed.

According to the poll, wine is still the most popular gift to bring to a dinner party, despite the rise in popularity of other items like olive oil and soap.

54% of respondents said that they would bring a bottle of wine, and 16% of people would give alcohol free wine, showing a shift towards alcohol moderation and inclusive choices.

Gen Z is also paving the way in mobile phone etiquette at dinner parties, with 57% embracing a no-phone rule, compared to just 36% Baby Boomers, according to a study by M&S Food.

Combined, these studies indicate that younger generations are challenging the social stereotypes once thrust upon them, and showing their affinity for nurturing meaningful connections with loved ones.

It comes as dinner parties become more popular in the UK, with more than one in three Brits saying they host at least once a month.

Dan Harwood, Managing Director for Eisberg's SW Wines Europe, said: “It’s clear that the dynamic is shifting, as Gen Z is driving the modern day dining culture etiquette and becoming the best party guests.

“It’s great to see the uplift in alcohol free choices at dinner parties. It’s no longer just about the alcohol, it’s about offering the choice to enjoy wine at any occasion, indulging in those special moments in life.

“There are some great dinner party choices in Eisberg’s Selection range such as Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio.”
